Here's a look at the weaving tips, tricks, stories, and more you will find in these issues:

Jan/Feb 1990 – Discover a myriad of different dyeing techniques from warp painting, ikat, and discharge dyeing. Also in this issue are articles on weaving and finishing “fuzzy” fabrics. Projects include an ikat tote bag, a rya pillow, and fuzzy felted mittens.

March/April 1990 – Learn everything you need to know to design and weave your own curtains and valances, or weave up one of five different window dressing projects. Other projects include “slubby” twill placemats, whimsical inlaid sheep towels, and a selection of simple summer tops.

May/June 1990 – This special themed issue of Handwoven is dedicated to the history of handweaving in America from 1920–1960. Read about great American handweavers including Mary Atwater and Marguerite Porter Davison. Weave up projects inspired by America's weaving heritage including a woolen throw and a Bauhaus inspired jacket.

Sept/Oct 1990 – Take on tartans and plaids with this issue of Handwoven. Kati Meek explains how to interpret a tartan pattern and then gives her tips and tricks for weaving the pattern square. Also in this issue is a special section on holiday weaving.

Nov/Dec 1990 – Fill your home with handwoven fabrics designed to be as beautiful as they are functional including a wintry “Ice and Sky” rug, a huck-lace door curtain, and a cozy wool blanket. Also in this issue, learn how to take a favorite draft and turn it into a successful weaving project.

Jan/Feb 1991 – Transform simple weave structures into complex-looking cloth using color-and-weave techniques. Also in this issue is a how-to article by Sharon Alderman on how to weave backed fabrics and a section devoted to weaving for special occasions.

March/April 1991 – Explore the endlessly versatile structure that is summer and winter with articles on weaving four blocks on just four shafts and designing with blocks. Projects include summer and winter place mats, a half-dräll bath mat, and summer and winter sweaters.

May/June 1991 – Add the perfect finishing touches to your handwovens with beaded fringe, kumihimo braids, knitted trim, and elegant hemstitching. Also in this issue is an excerpt from Peter Collingwood's book Rug Weaving Techniques. Projects include a chenille scarf with beaded fringe, an overshot runner, and lace curtains with inlay.

Sept/Oct 1991 – Bust your stash with projects designed to use up thrums, rags, and odd-colored yarns. Learn how to overdye old yarns to make them look new and how to use discharge dyeing to get the effect of ikat. Projects include thrum potholders, a twill overdye blanket, and napkins with resist-dyed stripes.

Nov/Dec 1991 – Punch up your plain-weave repertoire with this special themed issue of Handwoven. The clever projects in this issue use color, texture, and variable spacing to create complex-looking fabrics. Also in this issue is an article on shibori and a swatch collection of fabrics for interiors. Projects include a mohair tam, a kimono jacket, and a brushed wool blanket.
